What is in soft drinks in addition to sugar?

Postby Lightening Bug » Tue May 22, 2018 8:01 am

There have been a large number of articles discussing the amount of sugar in soft drinks. But not much attention to what else they contain. Some years ago I read that phosphorous was used to maintain the bubbles in soft drinks. Turns out that's not all that they contain.

From the article below -

[quote]It is also important to consider that phoshorus is not
the only mineral found in soft drinks. Sodium and
potassium often accompany phosphorus. Salts have the
ability to preserve food and improve appearance. There-
fore, phosphorus salts are used to enhance flavor and shelf
life, meaning they are used most commonly in soft drinks.[quote]

Seems to me these ingredients could throw your body chemistry out of whack. There is a lot of research that indicates this does happen.

The article also has a table that lists what is in other drinks too. What startled me is the other day I saw a picture of a toddler holing a soft drink can, not good.

What do you think?

Take care. :D
