Dealing with my Ma

Postby mowmud » Fri Jul 31, 2020 6:20 pm

It is now tougher than it has been ever before. She soils herself a minimum of once a day, worst day was 3 times in 12 hours. It is really stretching me to the limit... but I know there is not a doggone thing I can do to change it.

She seems to do it as some type of retribution. Keeps on mentioning she wants to get in her Cadillac and go to the casino. She says 'boat', but in MS that means casino.

I've never been to a casino in my life... I don't intend to start now. Mom is slowly trying to warp my brain.

mowmud,

I've helped give long-term elder care twice in my life. It is grueling. Hard to believe, but they don't try to be difficult, it is just something that happens. Do you have help? A visiting nurse, even if it is only a few hours a week, can help you stay sane...talk to your Mom's doctor. If the Doc is convinced that some "professional home care" is needed, he/she can write a prescription for it and Medicare will pay. And that will help you both--give you some much-needed breathing space.

saying a prayer for you.

Medicare don't pay for prescription drugs unless you have part D.

Ret, what you say is true, but according to the MedicareInteractive.org:

"Services covered by Medicare's home health benefit include intermittent skilled nursing care, therapy, and care provided by a home health aide. Depending on the circumstances, home health care will be covered by either Part A or Part B. ... Skilled therapy services refer to physical, speech, and occupational therapy."

So *services* don't require Part D, where drugs and vaccines do...

Thanks for your kind words Bkeepr, I had help early on, but I'm going into my third year with this. I don't mind helping out one little bit. When she gets uncooperative, it gets stressful.

I have a hard time dealing with unsensible people. If she wasn't my Ma... I would of ran her out of here a long time ago. She grates on my nerves. But I do it. Don't want to, but...
