Lumber prices "plummet"

Postby littleguns » Wed Jun 16, 2021 12:20 pm

At least that's what some headlines are saying. I see the "plummeting" at my southern MN Menards stores has seen standard 2x4x8 prices "plummet" to a mere $8 (yes, $1 per 12 inches!) after an 11% rebate. That price plunge comes after a peak "every-day price" of $11.99 a few weeks ago. I guess "plummeting," as with most things, is relative :D .

Even if you own a mid size plot, sawmills ain't all that expensive. Three mid size jobs will pay for the sawmill. Saw your own.

If you intend to sell lumber the wood patch gets small pretty quick. Gotta have a good size patch, 140 acres or so and even then, do selective cutting instead of clear cutting.

Three medium sized jobs, for yourself, decks and whatnot, the money you save at the lumber yard will pay for that Wood-mizer.

And as always, shop around... buy used.
